A Belfair woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash near Port Orchard Tuesday. According to the State Patrol, about 5:30 PM, a 2002 Nissan Sedan was eastbound on Highway 166 and crossed the center line and struck a westbound 2008 Toyota Highlander head-on at milepost 0.5. A third vehicle, 2002 Ford Escape which was westbound struck the Toyota from behind.
The Mason County Commission has approved the use of sewer holding tanks in the Belfair Urban Growth Area on an interim basis. The Commissioners approved the amended regulations Tuesday as a way for residents to build while waiting for a sewer line to reach within 500 feet of their lot. According to Barbara Adkins, Director of the County’s Department of Community Development, to be allowed to use a holding tank in the UGA a lot must meet all eight new criteria.
Citizens voiced their support Tuesday of a proposal for the Mason County Senior Activities Association to lease/purchase the former Mason County PUD No. 3 Complex on Cota Street in Downtown Shelton. The Association had an agreement to purchase the complex from the PUD but they were able to secure the grant needed to fund that purchase so the MCSAA is now proposing a long-term lease with the goal of purchasing the complex.
A burn ban on all outdoor burning will begin at 8 AM Sunday, July 15th and will be in effect until September 30th if weather permits. The Mason County Fire Marshal’s Office, a cooperative effort between the Mason County Department of Community Development and the Mason County Fire Chiefs Association, is enacting the burn ban which means all residential burning and land-clearing fires will be prohibited until further notice. Recreational fires or camp fires are still allowed.
Shelton City Administrator Dave O’Leary provided a little more information Monday on his request to divide the City’s Department of Community and Economic Development/Public Works back into two separate departments and hire a Public Works Director. As MasonWebTV.com first reported July 3rd, O’Leary would like to hire a recruiting firm to help with filling the position and is ready to request proposals from those firms in Washington.
