For much of the South Sound, recreational salmon fishing seasons will be the same as last year. The exception will be a major reduction in days fishing will be open on the Skokomish River. That is the outcome of negotiations between the state and tribal co-managers that concluded Thursday at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting in Seattle.
The Shelton School District is one of 43 districts across the state awarded grants for school facility energy cost savings improvements. The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction made the announcement this week, noting that the money will help produce long-term operational savings for the districts and stimulate construction-industry jobs in heating, ventilation, building system controls, lighting, windows and other building systems.
