This year’s Tribal Canoe Journey will be hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe and a record number of canoes will be landing in the Puget Sound this month. For centuries, the waters of the Salish Sea (Puget Sound) were the highways of the native people and the canoe was their way of travel. Tribes used the canoe to help them gather the bounty of the Inland sea and allowed them to journey to celebrate and share their stories.
A sex offender has moved to the Hoodsport area of Mason County. A sex offender information bulletin says 50-year-old David John Cullerton has registered a new address with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office: within the 500 block of North Suncrest Drive in Hoodsport. Cullerton is required to register as a sex offender due to a conviction for Rape of a Child 2nd Degree.
A sex offender who was recently released from prison is now living in the Five Corners area of Shelton. A bulletin from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Jesse Michael Matz has re-registered his address as within the 1800 block of Hay Street in Shelton. Matz is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2010 guilty plea to Rape of a Child 3rd Degree.
Gas prices are still dropping, according to GasBuddy.com. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Washington is $3.54. That’s 7 cents less than a week ago; 51 cents less than a month ago; and 23 cents less than a year ago. The state’s average is still higher than the National average of $3.41.
Guardrail work, utility work, and seismic retrofitting will impact traffic on state highways July 7 through July 13. The State Department of Transportation says work to improve safety by repairing, adjusting and installing guardrail and barrier will cause night time right-lane closures on U.S. Highway 101 Monday through Thursday.
