State Track and Field Results: MMK’s Sowle Sets Record

At the State Track and Field Championship Meets, Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowl set a State Record as the Owls had two 1B champions in four events. Shelton had three place in 3A. And one from North Mason took home a 2A medal.

Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle won Class 1B State Championships in the women’s long jump, triple jump and high jump. And Ian Frost won the Class 1B State Championship in the men’s discus.
Sowle set a new Class 1B State record in wining the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 10.25 inches. The sophomore broke the old record set in 2014 by 7.75 inches and was nearly a foot beyond the meet’s second place finisher. Sowle took the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet – more than a foot further than the second place finisher. The Lady Owl won the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches – four inches higher than the 2nd place finisher. She also finished 3rd in the State in women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 13.38 seconds – 29 tenths of a second behind champion Alana Keogh from Cusick and 26 tenths of a second behind 2nd place Jaiden Hill from Mount Vernon Christian.
Frost, a junior, won the discus with a throw of 156 feet, 8 inches – 17 feet, 8 inches further than the 2nd place finisher. Frost also placed 8th in the javelin with a throw of 140 feet, 4 inches.

The Highclimbers’ Cody Simon finished 2nd in the State in the Class 3A men’s pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 6 inches. The senior was 3 inches lower than champion Cade Neumann from Mt. Spokane.
McKenzie Salazar-Fox placed 4th in the State in the women’s shot put with a personal record 39 feet, 5.5 inches. The freshman was 4 feet, 11 inches short of champion Hadassah Ward from Gig Harbor.
Cody Hall was 4th in the state in the men’s javelin with a personal record 176 feet, 3 inches. The junior was 7 feet, 7 inches short of champion Ben Broselle from Ferndale.

The Bulldogs’ Lily Campbell was 2nd in the State in the Class 2A discus with a personal record 115 feet, 11 inches. The junior from Belfair was 13 feet short of champion Mary Carbee from Sehome.

State Tennis Results

At the Class 2A Girls’ Tennis Singles Championships, North Mason’s Makinna Skjonsby lost to Selah’s Mary-Frances Ballew in the first round, 6-0, 6-1. The Bulldog was then eliminated from the double elimination tournament in the second round by Aileen Nguyen from Foster, 6-0, 6-4.

Shelton’s Julia Goodale qualified for the Class 3A Girls’ Tennis Singles Championships as an alternate but the Highclimbers was not able to compete.

After the first day of competition at the State Track & Field Championship Meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma,

Shelton’s Cody Simon finished 2nd in the state in the men’s Class 3A pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 6 inches.

North Mason’s Lily Campbell was 2nd in the state in the women’s Class 2A discus with a personal record distance of 115 feet, 11 inches.

And the Highclimbers’ Cody Hall was 4th in the state in the men’s Class 3A javelin with a personal record distance of 176 feet, 3 inches.

Competition continues today (Friday) and Saturday.

Final State Golf Results

At the second day of the Class 3A State Golf Championships, Shelton’s Tim Nail shot a 78 bringing his two-round total to 155. The Highclimber finished 29th.

The top golfer at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland is Spencer Tibbits from Fort Vancouver High School who shot a 69 in the first round and a 68 in the second round, finishing with 137. In team scoring, Redmond was 1st followed by Capital, Kamiakin and Gig Harbor.

Day 1 results for Shelton & North Mason golfers

At the first day of the Class 3A State Golf Championships at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland, Shelton’s Tim Nail shot a 77 and is 35th. The Highclimber’s tee time for the Tournament’s second day is 10:42 AM.

In the Class 2A State Golf Championships at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane, North Mason’s Eric Jones came up a stroke short of making the cut for the day two. The Bulldog shot an 85 in the first round.

Shelton Tennis: Goodale to State

The Shelton girls’ tennis will have one representative in the State Tournament. Julia Goodale finished 6th as a singles player in the Class 3A West Central District 3 / Southwest District 4 Championships. Goodale beat Stadium’s Sam Putman 6-0, 6-1 in the first round but lost to Hudson Bay’s Avery Honaker in the second round 6-2, 6-3. In the consolation bracket, She beat Mt. Tahoma’s Vy Vu 6-0, 6-1 and Kelso’s Natalie Brown 6-2, 6-3 before losing to Mountainview’s Juwoon Kim 6-1, 6-0 in the 5th place match. Goodale will serve as an alternate in State.

District Track Results for SHS and NM

At the Class 3A West Central District 3 / Southwest District 4 Track and Field Championships, the Shelton boys finished 13th while the Lady Highclimbers tied for 14th in the team standings.

Top Placing ‘Climbers:
Cody Simon won the men’s pole vault.
McKenzie Salazar-Fox finished 2nd in the women’s shot put with a personal record 39 feet.

Cody Hall placed 5th in the men’s javelin.
Kaitlyn Paller took 6th in the women’s shot put, 6th inthe women javelin, and 7th in the women’s discus.
William Johnson was 7th in the men’s 1600 meters
Alysia Rosback finished 8th in the women’s long jump.

The State Track and Field Championship Meet is May 25 through May 27 at Mt. Tahoma High School.
At the Class 2A West Central District 3 Track and Field Championships, the North Mason girls finished 14th in the team standings.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Lily Campbell who won the women’s discus with a personal record 110 feet, 5 inches and was 3rd in the women’s javelin.
Natalie Carstensen was 5th in the women’s 400 meters with a personal record 1 minute 1.3 seconds.

The State Track and Field Championship Meet is May 25 through May 27 at Mt. Tahoma High School.

Shelton Softball Eliminated from District Tournament

The Shelton softball team was eliminated from the Class 3A West Central District 3 / Southwest District 4 Tournament. The Highclimbers were shutout by Kelso 11 to 0 in their first game Friday. Shelton then faced Spanaway Lake in the consolation bracket but the Sentinels were able to slip by the ‘Climbers 5 to 3. Shelton finishes the season with a 8-and-16 record.

After the first day of the Class 3A West Central District III / Southwest District IV Track & Field Championships at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner, the Shelton boys were in 9th place while the Lady Highclimbers were 11th in the team standings.

McKenzie Salazar-Fox placed 2nd in the women’s shot put (with a personal record 39 feet).
Kaitlyn Paller placed 6th in the women’s javelin (with a personal record 105 feet, 6 inches) and placed 6th in the women’s shot put.
William Johnson was 7th in the men’s 1600 meters (with a personal record 4 minutes, 29.5 seconds).

Competition continues Saturday.

 

After the first day of the Class 2A West Central District III Track & Field Championships at Renton Stadium, the North Mason girls were in 18th place in the team standings.

The Bulldogs Natalie Carstensen finished 5th in the 400 meters (with a personal record 1 minute 1.3 seconds).

The Mary M. Knight track & field teams competed in the Class 1B Southwest District IV Championships Wednesday at Naselle High School. The Owl boys finished 3rd in the team standings while the girls from Matlock were 6th.

High School Sports Results from 5/13/17

Results from SHS track & soccer; NM track

The South Sound Conference Track & Field Championships wrapped up Saturday at Highclimber Stadium. Shelton had numerous athletes perform well during the meet.

Top placing Highclimbers:
Cody Hall won the men’s javelin.
Cody Simon won the men’s pole vault (with a personal record of 15 feet).
Joshua Dohring took 2nd in the men’s shot put (with a personal record of 45 feet, 1 inch) and 2nd in the men’s discus.
McKenzie Salazar-Fox was 2nd inthe women’s shot put.
Jimmy Ye finished 2nd in the men’s 300-meter hurdles (with a personal record of 43.63 seconds) and was 6th in the triple jump.
William Johnson was 3rd in the men’s 3200 meters and 5th in the men’s 1600 meters (with a personal record of 4 minutes 30.84 seconds).
