A Belfair man died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 3 and Sunnyslope Road in Kitsap County Monday evening. According to the State Patrol, 66-year-old Craig S. Friend was on Sunnyslope Road in a 2008 Jeep Wrangler waiting to turn onto southbound SR-3 about 5 PM. The Jeep pulled onto Highway 3 into the path of a northbound 2000 Dodge Ram pickup. The pickup attempted to stop but the Ram collided with the Jeep in the northbound lane. Highway 3 was blocked for four hours.
A 54-year-old Brinnon man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 3 near Anthony Road Tuesday evening. According to a State Patrol collision memo, the name of the man has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The man was northbound in a 2005 Hyundai Accent just before 6 PM when he attempted to pass a vehicle that was stopped to turn left on Anthony Road. The Hyundai crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 1995 Chevrolet pick up truck
On Monday evening March 23, 2015 at approximately 5:31 PM, MACECOM 911 Dispatch received a cell phone call from a woman reporting that she was following a person driving erratically (speeding and crossing the center line) on John’s Prairie Road. While speaking with Dispatch, the suspected vehicle crashed head-on into a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction near the Mason County Public Utilities building in the 2600 block of E. John’s Prairie Road, 2 miles northeast of Shelton.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-vehicle crash that killed two people and seriously injured another on Forest Service Road 23 Sunday. Although deputies are still investigating, they believe there were seven passengers in the small truck – five in the bed – when it left the roadway at a high speed and struck a tree. Many of the passengers were thrown from the truck. Investigators also believe alcohol and possibly marijuana may be contributing factors in this crash.
Two people died in a single-car collision on Highway 8 Wednesday night, 10 miles east of McCleary. The State Patrol reports a 1994 Mazda Protege was eastbound at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway to the left, swerved back onto the highway and into a broadside skid. The Mazda continued off the roadway, again to the left, struck a tree and ended up in two pieces.
