An apparent robbery led to a car chase, possible exchange of gunfire and a crash earlier Sunday morning. Specific details on the incident have yet to be released but initial reports say the robbery occurred shortly before 5 AM in the Allyn area. The victim then chased the suspect and there were reports of gunfire before a crash on Highway 3 near Belfair. It is not known at this time if anyone was injured or whether any arrests have been made. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol are investigating.
A 57-year-old woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 north of Brinnon Wednesday morning. According to the State Patrol, Marilyn J. Smith was southbound on 101 in a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer about 8:30 AM. At milepost 304, which is two miles north of Brinnon, the Blazer left the roadway to the right, traveled in the ditch and struck a culvert abutment. A 54-year-old Brinnon man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 3 near Anthony Road Tuesday evening. According to a State Patrol collision memo, the name of the man has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The man was northbound in a 2005 Hyundai Accent just before 6 PM when he attempted to pass a vehicle that was stopped to turn left on Anthony Road. No one was injured when a semi truck crashed on U.S. Highway 101 near Potlatch Tuesday afternoon. The State Patrol says a 1998 Kenworth with a dump trailer was southbound just before 1 PM. At milepost 334, the semi drifted off the highway to the right onto the soft shoulder. The Kenworth rolled onto its side causing debris to enter the roadway. There were two separate traffic incidents involving school buses Wednesday morning and fortunately no students were injured.
The first incident happened on U.S. Highway 101 at Shelton Springs Road about 7:15 AM. The State Patrol reports a 1999 Bluebird bus was stopped in the left turn lane southbound 101 at Shelton Springs Road when a southbound 2005 Hyundai Sonata failed to stop and struck the rear of the bus. On Monday evening March 23, 2015 at approximately 5:31 PM, MACECOM 911 Dispatch received a cell phone call from a woman reporting that she was following a person driving erratically (speeding and crossing the center line) on John’s Prairie Road. While speaking with Dispatch, the suspected vehicle crashed head-on into a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction near the Mason County Public Utilities building in the 2600 block of E. A head-on collision on Johns Prairie near Mason County PUD No. 3 Operations Center killed one person and seriously injured another Monday night. Specific details on the crash that occurred about 6 PM have not been released but authorities say the causing driver who was reported as a possible DUI may have suffered a medial issue and died from her injuries. The other driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash into Hood Canal near Potlatch State Park Tuesday. About 12 PM, a red 2009 Chrysler 300 was northbound on U.S. Highway 101. At milepost 335, the car drifted to the right, continued off the highway and went down an embankment. It then struck the root of an evergreen tree, “catapulted” into the water, landing upside down. A car crashed into the Belfair Post Office Sunday afternoon about 2:30 PM. No one was injured but the building sustained extensive damage. The vehicle went completely inside the building and will need extensive repairs.
