A Washington State Trooper and a passing motorist saved a driver trapped in a submerged car near Ellensburg. According to a news release, Trooper Jay Farmer and motorist Jim Kocker swam approximately 50 feet out into a pond to save the unconscious driver who had left the roadway crashed through a fence and into a pond with only the roof visible. An SUV struck a power pole on Mason Lake Road and about 1000 Mason County PUD No. 3 in Lake Limerick are experiencing an emergency power outage while crews make repairs. The outage began about 11 AM and the PUD expects to have power restored by 3 PM. The pole is located near the intersection with St. Andrews Drive. Specific details on the crash have not been released.
A Shelton couple died at the scene of a two vehicle crash on Highway 3 at Pickering Road Tuesday morning. The State Patrol identifies the driver as 70-year-old Jean T. Chapman Jr. and the passenger as 68-year-old Marilyn L. Chapman. A collision memo says the couple was in a 2009 Toyota Camry which was westbound on Pickering Road about 10 AM. The Toyota attempted to turn southbound onto SR-3 when the car collided with a northbound 1997 International service truck. Continue reading
Two people have been confirmed dead in a collision on Highway 3 north of Shelton. Few details have been released but the crash involved a commercial vehicle and a passenger car. A Shelton man was injured in a five-vehicle pileup on northbound Interstate 5 Sunday evening. According to the State Patrol, 20-year-old Jesse W. Evans was northbound on I-5 in a 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup about 5:30 PM. Near the Carpenter Road overpass (milepost 110), a 2004 Ford F150 towing an 18-foot boat, a 2003 Fleetwood motor home and a 2012 Honda Accord had stopped for traffic. Evans was unable to stop in time and struck the boat trailer. A 1996 Freightliner semi then struck Evans’ Dodge which sent debris from the boat and trailer flying, striking the motor home and Honda. That second collision caused the boat to come off its trailer and end up in the median. Continue reading
A pedestrian was struck on U.S. Highway 101 Saturday night. The State Patrol reports the pedestrian, Jacob G. Caliendo, 28 of Port Angeles, was walk southbound on 101 at the Skokomish River Bridge about 6 PM when he attempted to cross the highway. Caliendo stepped in front of a south bound 1993 Chevrolet pickup. The driver of the truck, Ruben H. Gonzales, 48 of Shelton was unable to stop in time and struck Caliendo. Continue reading

Two people died in a single-car collision on Highway 8 Wednesday night, 10 miles east of McCleary. The State Patrol reports a 1994 Mazda Protege was eastbound at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway to the left, swerved back onto the highway and into a broadside skid. The Mazda continued off the roadway, again to the left, struck a tree and ended up in two pieces. Continue reading
A 53-year-old Shelton man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a travel trailer on U.S. Highway 101 near Brinnon Saturday morning. According to the State Patrol, Rickie A. F. Zehner was northbound on 101 about 11:30 AM when he failed to slow for vehicle turning left and took evasive action by going into the southbound lane, crashing into the 20-foot travel trailer being towed by a 2007 Nissan Armada. Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Belfair Thursday night. The State Patrol reports a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado pickup and a 2002 Chevrolet K2 pickup were southbound on Highway 3 about 11:30 PM. At milepost 25, the Colorado slowed to make a left turn into a private driveway. The K2 truck attempted to pass on the left, striking the other truck and causing it to roll onto its top. The driver of the K2 truck, identified as Tylor J. Gray, 24 of Silverdale, fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended. Continue reading
A six-year-old boy was hit by an SUV Saturday in the Victor area. According to authorities, the boy was playing with a a toy near the intersection of East Nahum Lane and Highway 302. About 12:30 PM, the toy rolled across the highway. The boy chased the toy and ran in front of the westbound SUV which struck him. The boy was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A 10-month-old baby boy was injured in the single-vehicle crash in the Kamilche area Thursday night. According to the State Patrol, the baby was a passenger in a 1992 Acura Integra that was that was northbound on Klah-Che-Min Drive about 10 PM. In the 900 block, the car left the roadway to the right and collided with the ditch. The Acura rotated 180 degrees and the baby boy was ejected. He transported to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma. According to the State Patrol, a 2012 Ford F150 pickup was stopped at the stop sign on Johns Prairie Road about 2 PM when a 1993 Geo Storm, which was southbound on Highway 3, veered to the right and struck the truck. A 33-year-old Olympia woman died in a motorcycle vs. car head-on collision on U.S. Highway 101 south of Wallace Kneeland Boulevard Wednesday afternoon. The State Patrol reports the 1992 Honda VF750 motorcycle was in lane two of northbound 101 about 5 PM. Near milepost 345 (between the City Center/Shelton Matlock Road exit and Wallace Kneeland exit), a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Colbalt passed another southbound vehicle and collided with the bike in the northbound lane. A fatal motorcycle vs. car crash occurred Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 101 between Shelton Matlock Road and Wallace Kneeland Boulevard. The State Patrol says the woman driver of the motorcycle died at the scene while the woman driving the car was transported to Mason General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other details are available at this time as Troopers are investigating.
