A Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 in Belfair Wednesday. The State Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision that occurred just before 7 PM and blocked the highway for two and a half hours. According to a Trooper report, a 2006 Hyundai Sonata was westbound on Straub Hill attempting to turn left onto SR-3. The Deputy was northbound on Highway 3 responding to an emergency in a 2016 Ford Explorer. The driver of the Sonata didn’t see the the SUV coming around the corner with lights and siren activated. The Explorer struck the Hyundai on the driver’s side.
A three-vehicle hit-and-run head-on collision blocked Highway 3 near the Bremerton Airport for eight hours Sunday and into Monday morning. And the State Patrol is looking for the driver who caused the crash that injured three people – one from Belfair.
According to a WSP press memo, just after 10 PM, a red 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling northbound on SR-3 at a high rate of speed. At the intersection with Barney White Road, the Cavalier used the shoulder and part of the one northbound lane to pass a 2007 Saturn Vue SUV on the right. The Chevy sideswiped the Saturn. The driver of the SUV lost control, crossed the center line and struct a southbound 2000 Jaguar S Type four-door head-on. The driver of the Cavalier then fled the scene on foot.
An Olympia woman was injured Sunday when her motorcycle struck a cable barrier on U.S. Highway 101 near Kennedy Creek. A State Patrol report says the 2007 Harley Davidson FLSTC motorcycle was southbound on 101 about 5 PM. At milepost 356, the bike left the roadway to the left and struck the cable barrier.
A 74-year-old Bremerton woman was seriously injured after her car rolled over on Highway 3 south of Pickering Road Thursday evening. The State Patrol reports the 2014 Subaru Legacy was southbound on SR-3 about 6:15 PM. At milepost 10.5 (which is between Pickering Road and the Pioneer Substation), the sedan left the roadway to the right and struck an embankment causing the car to flip end over end. The Subaru landed on its wheels on the southbound shoulder.
A propane tanker truck spilled fuel while being pulled from a ditch on U.S. Highway 101 near Beacon Point Drive Tuesday morning. The State Patrol says the tanker was southbound on 101 about 4 AM. At milepost 316 (about two miles south of the Jefferson County Line), the driver over corrected on a turn and the truck traveled approximately 150 feet before coming to rest in the southbound ditch. While the truck was being pulled out of the ditch by a tow truck, its passenger side fuel tank ruptured, spilling 50 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel. The State Department of Ecology responded to contain the spill.
A Seattle woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 Saturday night near Hamma Hamma. The State Patrol reports a 2010 Volkswagen Golf was northbound on 101 about 10 PM. Near milepost 321 (which is between Jorsted Creek and Hamma Hamma River), the VW crossed the center line, left the roadway and entered the southbound ditch. The Golf then struck a dirt embankment and rolled at least once, landing on it’s top in the northbound lane.
One person died and three others were injured – one seriously – in a head-on collision on Highway 3 about a mile north of Bayshore Monday around 8:30 AM. The State Patrol has yet to release an official report on the collision. However, there have been reports that say a 58-year-old Tahuya man died at the scene of the crash and identify the deceased driver as Mark Billings. Initial reports say three trucks were involved with Billings’ vehicle striking the rear of one truck, then crossing the center line and colliding head-on with another truck. One of the trucks ended up off the highway and down an embankment. State Route 3 was blocked for over six hours.
The State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle collision on Highway 302 Monday night that sent a Belfair motorcyclist to Seattle hospital. About 8:30 PM, a 2017 Harley Davidson was westbound on SR-302 and a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg was eastbound. At milepost 8 (near Wright Bliss), the Harley attempted to pass a westbound vehicle in a curve. When the motorcycle attempted to re-enter the westbound lane, it struck the VW in the eastbound lane. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane which was blocked for three hours.
An Olympia woman was injured Sunday when the Suburban she was in rolled over on U.S. Highway 101 south of Potltach State Park. A State Patrol press memo says the 1995 Chevrolet Suburban was southbound on 101 about 5:20 PM. At milepost 336, which is 12 miles north of Shelton and about a mile south of Potlatch State Park, the Chevy traveled off the southbound shoulder, entered the ditch and rolled onto its top.
A Belfair woman has died ten days after the SUV she was driving ran off Highway 16. On April 6, 2017, 39-year-old Celiece M. Bothwell was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango eastbound on SR-16. Just before 5 AM at milepost 19, the SUV left the roadway to the right and struck a tree. Bothwell was transported by aid car to Tacoma General Hospital. The State Patrol reports that Bothwell died at 12:45 PM Sunday.
