PILT Money Coming to Mason County

Mason County is getting $135,119 from the Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program this year, the highest amount in more than a decade. According to U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, the PILT program helps local governments carry out vital services such as firefighting and police protection, construction of public schools and roads, and search-and-rescue operations.

NM School Super Contract Extended

The North Mason School Board has extended contract with the District’s Superintendent for another year. Thursday night, Board Members approved the extension with David Peterson through the 2012-2013 school year.

Small Earthquake Off Harstine Island

A small earthquake occurred off Harstine Island Friday morning. The USGS reports the magnitude 2.4 quake happened at 6:17 AM and was centered in Case Inlet about a half mile east of Harstine Island, between Harstine and Herron islands. The depth of the quake was 13.5 miles.

City Commission Brief on Moving Hydrant for SAVER Project

The Shelton City Commission was briefed Monday night on moving a fire hydrant at the northwest corner of 1st and Railroad Avenue for the SAVER (Shelton Alliance for Viable Economic Revitalization) group’s landscaping project. The City’s Public Works Director, Steve Goins, says they want to move the hydrant about ten feet to the north to make the intersection ADA compliant.
