American Legion Fred B. Wivell Post 31 will be hosting an American Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Shelton Memorial Park Veterans Area on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The post along with cadets from the Shelton High School NJROTC and local Boy Scout troops will participate in the ceremony and will show how an American Flag should be properly disposed of. The public is invited to the ceremony.
Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff Friday, June 22, in memory of U.S. Army First Lieutenant Mathew G. Fazzari, 25, of Walla Walla. Fazzari was killed June 6 in Afghanistan when his helicopter crashed after receiving enemy fire.
The Robin Hood Village Resort in Union is being fined $12,000 by the Department of Ecology (Ecology) for failing to comply with shoreline permitting requirements. An Ecology news release says the penalty was levied after the park owner failed to comply with an April 5th Notice of Correction that instructed the owner to either apply to Mason County for required shoreline permits or to remove four rental units placed along Hood Canal shore lands.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office believes a sex offender missing from Thurston County is in Mason County. According to a sex offender information bulletin, 39-year-old Gary Shawn Brown is required to register as a sex offender due to a Squaxin Island Tribal Court conviction for Statutory Rape 1st Degree.
The Belfair Water District Commissioners say there were lessons learned from last week’s water main break but praised staff for their response. Tuesday night, the Commissioners addressed the situation saying that unlike past Commissions they reported the break to the Department of Health which prompted the boil advisory.
The Belfair Water District Commissioners were briefed on the mediation that is now scheduled between the Water District and David Tipton Tuesday night. After a 15-minute executive session, the Water District’s Attorney, Brian Snure, explained that mediation is mandatory in Mason County for civil lawsuits and spelled out specifically what is in dispute.
