Fifteen firefighters from three Mason County Fire Districts are participating in Sunday’s Stair Climb at Seattle’s Columbia Center. The 21st annual event raises funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. While racing up 69 floors of stairs (1,311 steps) to the Columbia Center observation deck, firefighters are required to wear the same 50 pounds of “bunker” gear – helmet, fireproof coat and pants, boots and breathing apparatus and air tanks – used to fight fires.
The Belfair Water District is under new management after a special meeting of the Water District Commissioners Thursday afternoon. After a 40-minute executive session, the Commissioners unanimously placed District Manager Dave Tipton on paid administrative leave pending a review of his job performance.
Two Mason County Fire Districts were awarded grant funding from the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program for necessary equipment. Central Mason Fire and EMS (CMFE) was awarded $162,000 for the replacement and upgrade of five new state of the art heart monitors while Mason County Fire District No. 2 received $60,000 to replace aging fire hose.
