The Washington State Liquor Control Board announced the closure schedule for most remaining state liquor stores before the first day of private liquor sales on June 1. The board is using a phased closure method, spreading out store shutdowns over four days. According to the schedule, the Shelton Liquor Store will be closing on May 28 and the Belfair Liquor Store will be closing on May 31.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has postponed action on a possible land exchange on Harstine Island. The Commission is considering its options for obtaining property adjacent to the waterfront property known as Fudge Point as well as purchasing the waterfront property. One of the options is to trade a portion of Harstine Island State Park for the upland property, developing that into a campground that could generate funds to buy Fudge Point for $2.2 million.
The Mason County Commission is once again seeking applications from interested residents who would like to serve on the recently created Belfair Urban Growth Area Advisory Committee. This committee will assess the Belfair community’s needs and provide recommendations to the Commissioners and other Commissioner appointed groups.
Mason County PUD No. 3 and Simpson Lumber Company to improve the lighting at the Company’s operations in Mason County while improving energy efficiency. Justin Holzgrove, the PUD’s Conservation Manager, worked with Tony Enslow, Simpson’s Project Engineer and Environmental Specialist, on the project at the waterfront in Shelton and at the company’s mill on John’s Prairie.
Planned work on the railroad trestle over Highway 3 just outside Shelton will extend the length of the lane closure in that area next month. According to City Administrator Dave O’Leary, during the week of June 7th, crews will build scaffolding around the trestle and will be closing one lane of the highway at night to do so. The plan is to extend the light controlled one-lane alternating traffic area to the west of the trestle while the scaffolding is being erected.
