Harstine Island Community Choir Annual Spring Concert

Harstine Island Community Choir presents their eighth annual spring concert, Touch of Fire, leading you from the flickering first lights of Bobrowitz and Porter’s The Creation (A Rock Cantata), to bask in the splendor, warmth and glory of Joseph Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai, and finally to the hope of renewal in a set of American spirituals that triumph over the ashes of despair. Their first performance is 7 PM tonight (May 18th) at United Methodist Church in Shelton. The Choir is also performing at 3 PM tomorrow (May 19th) at St Hugh’s Episcopal Church in Allyn and at 3 PM Sunday (May 20th) at the Choir’s home venue, Harstine Island Community Hall. All performances: Donate as able.

“A Message of Hope – A Conversation with Chris Herren” Tonight

A reminder: Former NBA star Chris Herren is appearing at the Skookum Creek Event Center tonight. His presentation “A Message of Hope – A Conversation with Chris Herren” starts at 7:30 PM. Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, realized his dreams by playing for the Celtics in the NBA, only to lose it all to addiction before rising again with a new dream.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday

Saturday is the national Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The National Association of Letter Carriers and Campbell Soup Company are joining forces to collect non-perishable food items. This is the 20th year for this food drive. To participate, residents are asked to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday. Your letter carrier will collect these food donations as they deliver the mail.

Hospital to Dedicate New Walking Trail

Mason General Hospital and Family of Clinics will be dedicating its new walking trail around the hospital campus Friday morning at 9 AM. The trail is part of the hospital’s remodel and meanders around the hospital grounds from the Wellness Garden on the west side of the facility, south along Sherwood Lane, east at G Street, north on N 13th Street to Mountain View Drive and back to the Wellness Garden along Mountain View Drive – about a half mile.

Don James, Gillis Auto Love INC Golf Tournament Supporters

The support of Love INC’s second annual golf tournament and dinner auction is increasing. The 501 C (3) organization that mobilized churches in Mason County to assist those in need, recently added former University of Washington football coach Don James as this year’s Celebrity Golfer and Gillis Auto Center is donating a 2012 automobile to the first hole-in-one made on Hole 2 and other prized to all hole-in-ones made on the par 3 holes.
