The 2012 Mason General Hospital Foundation’s American Business Women’s Award winners have been announce. Every year, MGHF honors three outstanding business women who are or were successful in their occupations, work or have worked in Mason County, and are active as volunteers in the community.
A spaghetti dinner and concert to help with medical expenses for a local man who suffered a stroke while vacationing in Mexico are scheduled for Saturday night. Art Erickson, who lives in McCleary and works for Manke Family Resources in Shelton, has been in a hospital in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico since June 22nd when he suffered the massive stroke.
This year’s Tribal Canoe Journey will be hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe and a record number of canoes will be landing in the Puget Sound this month. For centuries, the waters of the Salish Sea (Puget Sound) were the highways of the native people and the canoe was their way of travel. Tribes used the canoe to help them gather the bounty of the Inland sea and allowed them to journey to celebrate and share their stories.
