Harstine Island Community Choir presents their eighth annual spring concert, Touch of Fire, leading you from the flickering first lights of Bobrowitz and Porter’s The Creation (A Rock Cantata), to bask in the splendor, warmth and glory of Joseph Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai, and finally to the hope of renewal in a set of American spirituals that triumph over the ashes of despair. Their first performance is 7 PM tonight (May 18th) at United Methodist Church in Shelton. The Choir is also performing at 3 PM tomorrow (May 19th) at St Hugh’s Episcopal Church in Allyn and at 3 PM Sunday (May 20th) at the Choir’s home venue, Harstine Island Community Hall. All performances: Donate as able.
A reminder: Former NBA star Chris Herren is appearing at the Skookum Creek Event Center tonight. His presentation “A Message of Hope – A Conversation with Chris Herren” starts at 7:30 PM. Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, realized his dreams by playing for the Celtics in the NBA, only to lose it all to addiction before rising again with a new dream.
