Back in 2009, Mason County Commissioner, Tim Sheldon, successfully led the charge to cut county staff by one third. Now he wonders, aloud and publicly, why the county Assessor, Auditor and Treasurer’s Departments are unable to serve the public during the lunch hour.

I really enjoyed Ms. Peet’s editorial in which she supports candidate Travis Couture for State Senator representing the 35th Legislative District. That’s not to say I agree with her, I don’t, but she makes a couple of good points:

I don’t pretend to know everything about politics. What I do know, is that in any plan for success, one of the key ingredients is having a good team of people with like minds. Ah, Green Diamond, the very words conjure up a vision of unfettered access to thickly treed forests, abundant wildlife and graveled logging roads just begging to be hiked. But there’s another side to this bucolic setting, one of locked gates, costly permits and privileged entrance; and that is the road our largest tree farmer has chosen to travel.

Political Op/Ed by Dawn Peet, Shelton: Who will we pass the mantle to?

I sit on my front porch often, and I think about my little town. Then I think about my children and grandchildren, and I can’t help but fear for their future. It is not an easy thing, for the first time in my life, to feel the burden of what is upon us.

I applaud Kitsap County and the Skokomish tribal members of the Hood Canal Coordinating Council board of directors for standing firm with Mason County in delaying 3 million dollars of restoration monies until a new method of prioritization for Hood Canal projects can be developed. Mason County Commissioner Randy Neatherlin deserves much of the credit for this new ranking system.
