Small Earthquake in Upper Hood Canal

There was a small earthquake reported in Upper Hood Canal Monday night. The 1.7 magnitude quake happened about 7:30 PM and was centered just off shore about 6 miles north of the Bangor Trident Base at a depth of more than 13 miles.

Stage 2 Burn Ban in Thurston; Still Voluntary in Mason

The Olympic Region Clean Air Agency has issued a Stage 2 Burn Ban for Thurston County. Under a Stage 2 ban, no burning is allowed in fireplaces or wood stoves (certified and uncertified), and all outdoor burning is prohibited. The ban will be lifted only after a change in weather arrives to improve the air quality.

Josh Powell, 2 children killed in home explosion

Josh Powell and his two children were killed Sunday afternoon in an explosion at the Graham-area house where Powell was living. Neighbors reported the explosion at the house in the 8100 block of 188th Street Court East to authorities at about 12:30 p.m.

101 Reopened

U.S. Highway 101 has been reopened after a slide blocked both lanes about a mile south of Hoodsport Sunday morning. The slide occurred about 11 AM. The Highway was reopened just before 4 PM.
