Mason County Treasurer Lisa Frazier is informing property owners that their 2012 property tax statements will be delayed. Last week, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled the Mason County Conservation District Assessment of $5 per parcel and a per acre rate invalid.

The Shelton City Commission was briefed Monday night on five suggestions from SAVER (Shelton Alliance for Viable Economic Revitalization), a subcommittee of the Government Affairs Committee from the Shelton Mason County Chamber of Commerce. In order to help attract new businesses to the downtown area of Shelton, SAVER suggested the City put a moratorium on its sign requirement for 180 days; waive the Business and Occupation (B&O) tax for the first year of operation; waive the Traffic Impact Fee for new businesses locating to existing buildings; create low rent incubator space as an incentive for businesses to locate downtown; and work with the Chamber and the Economic Development Council of Mason County on marketing available spaces.
The application for a $1 Million Community Development Block Grant for the Mason County Senior Activities Association is getting closer to completion. Monday night, the Shelton City Commission was briefed on the latest draft of the application the City will be submitting to the State Department of Commerce on behalf of the Association for funds to purchase the Mason County PUD No. 3 complex on Cota Street.
The Port of Shelton said Tuesday it is working with Hall Equities on a potential land swap in the Shelton Hills development that will help protect Sanderson Field from encroachment by incompatible use. This statement comes on the heels of last week’s reversal of the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board invalidity order on the City of Shelton’s rezone of 160 acres in the Hall property from Commercial/Industrial to Residential.
