High School Sports Report for 3/15/12

At the West Sound All Star basketball game Wednesday night, North Mason’s Austin Sandquist scored six points for the Cascade boys’ team as they beat the Puget Sound 68 to 66.

The Shelton boys’ soccer team was shut out by Bellarmine Prep Wednesday night two-nil (2-0). The Highclimbers travel to Stadium Friday night.

 

Power Outage on North Shore Road

Mason County PUD No. 3 linemen restored electricity to 243 customers along the North Shore Road west of Belfair. The outage began at 11:30 Wednesday morning when trees fell across power lines near the intersection of Patton Road. The PUD had electricity restored at 3:20 PM.

More Snow Wednesday

More snow is possible today (Wed.). The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Hood Canal area and forecasters say 2 to 6 inches of snow is possible with the higher amount for those at higher elevations.

County Unemployment Rises

The unemployment rate in Mason County rose in January. According to figures released Tuesday by the State Employment Security Department, the County’s unemployment rate is now 11.5%, up six-tenths of a percentage point from December’s 10.9% but full percent below January 2011’s 12.5% unemployment rate.

County Forming Belfair UGA Advisory Committee

The Mason County Commission took action Tuesday to create an Advisory Committee for the Belfair Urban Growth Area. The resolution creating the Advisory Committee says the Committee will “assess the community’s current needs” and will “review incorporation, utilities and the urban growth boundary” and create a timeline to be approved by the Commissioners.
