An explosion and fire at the home of Josh Powell

An explosion occurred Sunday at the home of Josh Powell, who is a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, Susan Powell. Graham Deputy Fire Chief Gary Franz said at about a quarter to one, Powell was having a home visitation with his two young boys when the caseworker – who was outside – smelled gas. A short time later the home exploded.

Stage Two Burn Ban for Thurston; Still Voluntary in Mason

The Olympic Region Clean Air agency has now issued a Stage Two Burn Ban for Thurston County, effective 8 AM Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 and will continue indefinitely. Under a Stage Two Burn Ban, NO burning is allowed in fireplaces or wood stoves (certified and uncertified), and all outdoor burning is prohibited.

A reminder: an air stagnation advisory remains in effect for the Puget Sound through Monday afternoon. A ridge of high pressure is causing a strong temperature inversion to form, allowing pollutants to build up.
