PUD 3 Considering May Rate Increase

The Mason County PUD No. 3 Board of Commissioners is considering an increase in electricity rates effective in May. At a public hearing Tuesday, PUD officials explained that the financial impacts of looming renewable energy purchases and an increase in price for wholesale electricity supplies purchased from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) are among the main reasons for the increase.

County Unemployment Rises Again

The unemployment rate in Mason County rose again in February. According to preliminary numbers from the State Employment Security Department, the County’s unemployment rate last month was 11.7%.

City Looking to Update Economic Development Chapter

 

The City of Shelton is working on an update to the Economic Development Chapter in its Comprehensive Plan. Monday, City Administrator Dave O’Leary briefed the Shelton City Commission on the draft update.

City to Survey Citizens About Neighborhood Parks

The City of Shelton will soon be sending surveys to residents who live within a half mile of two neighborhood parks asking for input on how those parks should be developed. Mark Ziegler, Parks and Recreation Director, told the Shelton Metropolitan Board the parks are Johnson Park on Capital Hill and an undeveloped park south of Terrace Heights.

Father & Son Drown in Lake Limerick

The father and son whose bodies were pulled from Lake Limerick in the past two weeks drown. A news release from Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell says an autopsy on Sheldon Olsen, whose body was recovered from the lake Saturday, was completed Monday and the results show he “died as the result of freshwater drowning.”
