Mount Olive Lutheran Church Welcomes New Pastor

rev Steve Heinsen installationMount Olive Lutheran Church, which has served the Shelton area since 1926, recently celebrated the installation of Rev. Steven Heinsen as their pastor.

rev Steve HeinsenRev. Heinsen was recommended by a committee of members that was formed over a year ago when the position became vacant. This call committee, with the help of the Northwest District President in Portland, interviewed potential leaders from across the United States and as far away as Poland. In October, the membership of the congregation unanimously voted to extend a call to Rev. Heinsen.

Shelton First Baptist Church To Host Giving Tree For Love INC

In honor of Christmas, Shelton First Baptist Church is hosting a ‘Giving Tree’ in December to help meet Love INC clients’ needs for cold weather items such as sleeping bags, blankets, tents, tarps, hats and gloves. Congregants will select a card from the tree that names a needed item. Donations will be collected at the Love INC office, stored in Love INC’s distribution center, and handed out as needs arise. The local Care Net Pregnancy Center is also part of the Giving Tree.

PUD 3’s Gott Reappointed to Power Association Council

2014-12-11---gott-appaThe American Public Power Association (APPA) Board of Directors this week appointed Mason County PUD 3 Commissioner Linda Gott to a three-year term on its Policy Makers Council. Gott had previously been selected by the board to a one year term.

Update: Shelton Teacher & Coach Arrested

MCsheriff logo smallThe following is a news release from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office:
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office was requested by the Shelton School District to investigate a report alleging that a Shelton High School Teacher and Coach had sexual contact with a female student at the school. The investigation lead to the arrest of Christopher Frazier, a 30-year-old man from Shelton. The victim is a 17-year-old girl. Frazier was booked into the Mason County Jail on December 10th for investigation of Sexual Misconduct of a Minor and for Communication with a Minor for Immoral Purposes. His bail was set at $10,000.00 and he bailed out last night, December 11th. This case will be reviewed by the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office. No other information is available at this time due to the on-going investigation.

Highway 101 Reduced to One Lane along Hood Canal

Damage to the northbound shoulder of US Highway 101 caused by recent heavy rains will require the road to be reduced to one alternating lane of traffic near the Mason-Jefferson County line at milepost 316.5. Recent heavy rains at the site, north of Hamma Hamma, washed away the roadway shoulder adjacent to Hood Canal.


Approximately 70 feet of the roadway shoulder has been damaged.

Mac Ewen prefiles bill to fund education first

drew macewenRep. Drew MacEwen, R-Union, has prefiled a bill to fund education first. House Bill 1001 would require a stand-alone education budget be passed and sent to the governor’s desk by March 31 in biennial budget years and Feb. 15 in supplemental budget years. Additionally, House Bill 1001 requires the governor to submit a separate education audio iconbudget proposal to the Legislature with K-12 appropriations based on existing revenues and without assuming new taxes.

Car Club Makes Stuffed Animal Donation
