A flood warning is in effect for the Skokomish River. The National Weather Services reports heavy rain over the south slopes of the Olympics Wednesday (1/4/12) drove the river above the 16.5-foot flood stage last night. The Skokomish crested near 16.9 feet just before 2 AM this (Thursday 1/5/12) morning. Precipitation over the area today will be intermittent and the snow levels have lowered to 2500 feet which will allow the River to recede. The Skokomish is expected to drop below flood stage about 10 AM and drop below the advisory stage by 10 PM.
Some rain is forecast through Friday night but the weekend looks okay. There is a 50% chance of rain today and a 30% chance tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. Forecasters say drier conditions are expected Saturday and Sunday with the rain returning Sunday night.
