The woman who was pulled from Hood Canal Saturday died from natural causes not drowning as earlier reports indicated. Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell says Marian K. Gruber, 81 of Mountlake Terrace, was at her family’s residence between Union and Twanoh State Park. She was on a float in the water when she started having pain in her arms. She called for help and was immediately pulled from the Canal by relatives. After being removed from the water, Gruber became unresponsive. Emergency aid was then called to the 9500 block of Highway 106 but attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. According to Stockwell, Gruber was never underwater and that her death appears to be from natural causes.
