Shelton City Commission Meets Monday

The Shelton City Commission meets Monday afternoon at 2 PM. During the meeting in one of the conference rooms at the Shelton Civic Center, the Commissioners will be briefed on a sub-grant for WestNET, discuss the Comprehensive Six Year Transportation Improvement Program, talk about the standards for public defense, re-evaluate the framework for City’s financial recovery and sustainability, decide between two search firms to help select a public works director, and be updated on the City’s fireworks ban.


Public Hospital District No. 1 Commission Meets Tuesday Morning

The Mason County Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Commissioners meets at 8 AM Tuesday in the Washington room at Mason General Hospital. The meeting is open to the public.


Mason County Commission Meets Tuesday Morning

The Mason County Commission meets Tuesday morning at 9 AM. The County Commissioners’ draft agenda includes a service award for Pat Swartos, a proclamation for the Hood Canal Highland Celtic Festival, an announcement of a bid to complete Oakland Bay Park Improvement Project, a news release relating to the relocation of the Utilities Department, a dozen “Action Agenda” items, and a public hearing on budget transfers and supplemental appropriations. Among the Action Agenda items is modification to the Mason County Jail by adding three portable cells – increasing the jail capacity to 114 – and adding three corrections officers to staff the portables. The hearing, which is scheduled for 9:30 AM, is on budget transfers to Civil Service, to Probation/Juvenile Department and Public Health; and supplemental appropriations to the County Clerk’s office, the Department of Community Development, the Sheriff’s Office and Public Health.

The Mason County Commission is also holding their usual briefings on Monday morning beginning at 9 AM.


Port of Shelton Commission Special Public Hearing Tuesday

The Port of Shelton Commission is holding a special meeting at 2 PM Tuesday in order to hold a public hearing on declaring surplus timber at John’s Prairie. The hearing is being held in the Port Commission Boardroom at the Port’s Offices at 21 West Sanderson Way.


Shelton School Board Meets Tuesday

The Shelton School Board meets Tuesday at 5:45 PM. Top item on the agenda is the review of the proposed budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The School Board will also hear a summary of the 2011-2012 Universal Screening Report and get a report on student harassment, intimidation and bullying for 2011-2012. The Shelton School Board meets in the boardroom on the second floor of CHOICE School.


Public Hospital District No. 2 Commission Meets Tuesday Night

The Mason County Public Hospital District No. 2 Commission meets at 7 PM Tuesday night in the Belfair Harrison Medical Center conference room. The Hospital Commissioners are now meeting twice a month and everyone is welcome to attend.


Central Mason Fire & EMS Commission Meets Wednesday

The Board of Commissioners for Central Mason Fire & EMS (Mason County Fire District 5) meets at 4 PM Wednesday. The Fire Commissioners meet at the Shelton Fire Hall.


Public Records & Open Meetings Laws Forum Wednesday Night

The Washington Coalition for Open Government and the League of Women Voters Mason County are holding a forum on Public Records and Open Meetings Laws 6 PM Wednesday night in the Mt. Washington Room at Alderbrook Resort in Union. A panel of experts will discuss securing and preserving the public’s right to access records and proceedings of government agencies. The panelists include Lynn Kessler, former State House Majority Leader Jerry Handfield, State Archivist; Tim Ford, Assistant Attorney General; and Sean Robinson, Tacoma News Tribune Reporter.


Shelton School Board Holding Retreat Thursday

The Shelton School Board is holding a retreat Thursday from 9 AM to 4 PM. The retreat will be held at Little Creek Casino Hotel.


North Mason School Board Meets Thursday Night

The North Mason School Board meets Thursday night at 6:30 PM. During the meeting at the District Administration Office, 71 Campus Drive in Belfair, the School Board will be updated on the 2011-2012 budget, and hear reports on the preliminary State Assessment results and the annual transportation inspection.


Rock Sale and Swap Meet Saturday

The Shelton Rock and Mineral Society is holding the 3rd Annual Tailgate Rock Sale and Swap Meet on Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM, at the Shelton Soccer Park, 2202 Johns Prairie Road. All rockhounders are invited to participate and bring their rocks, fossils, rock crafts, and equipment. The event is free to shoppers and browsers.
