A flood watch has been issued for most of the rivers flowing off the Olympic Mountains with the Skokomish River most likely to reach flood stage. Periods of heavy rain are possible over the Olympics late tonight (1/3/12) through Wednesday evening which could drive the Skokomish above the 16.5-foot flood stage. Up to 3 inches of precipitation could fall over the Olympic Mountains. If flooding does occur, forecasters say it will likely be minor. The latest prediction for the Skokomish River has it staying just below the 15.5-foot advisory stage tonight and reaching just above that level Thursday morning.
However, conditions can change rapidly so those in the Skokomish Valley should be prepared if flooding does occur as rain is likely through the week. The chance of precipitation is 60% today, increasing to 90% on Wednesday night, and then dropping to 30% on Friday.
