Results: NM softball & track (sub districts); SHS rugby & track (Narrows League)
The North Mason fastpitch softball team is heading to the Class 2A West Central District Tournament next weekend. The Bulldogs are the 11th seed after Saturday’s Sub District Tournament Saturday in Silverdale. The girls from Belfair were to play Tyee in their first game but the Totems forfeited that loser out game sending North Mason to the Eatonville for seeding. The Bulldogs had a four-run lead after five innings but the Cruisers tied it in the sixth and won it on an inside the park home run in the seventh to take the ninth seed into Districts. The girls from Belfair were led in the loss by Kayla Gascoyne who went 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple and a run scored. Julie Johnson was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Makensea Peek was 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. And Marissa Horton went 2 for 4. North Mason takes on Sumner in the first round of the double elimination tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. The Spartans are the #6 seed. First pitch is 12 PM Friday.
The North Mason track teams competed in the Class 2A Olympic League Sub District Meet in Port Angeles Saturday. The Bulldog boys were 3rd in the meet while the girls from Belfair were 4th. North Kitsap won both sides followed by the Olympic boys, the Kingston girls and the Port Angeles girls.
Top North Mason finishers included Craig (CJ) Allen who won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, and was 2nd in the 200; Tommy Marsh won the discus and was 4th in the shot put; Nick Jenson took the pole vault; Brandon Dunham placed 1st in the javelin and 3rd in the high jump; Ruby Nelson won the discus and was 4th in the shot put; Emily Walsh took the javelin; Alicia Martin was 2nd in the shot put and the javelin; Emma Berg placed 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump; Anthony Raymond was 2nd in the discus; Rene Miguel took 3rd in the 300 hurdles; Alivia Sandquist was 5th in the 200; and Joshua Hosier placed 4th in the 400 and 5th in the 100.
The Bulldog girls’ relay team of Tabitha Schwerzler, Alivia Sandquist, Evelyn Williams & Emma Berg was 2nd in the 4 x 100 and 3rd in the 4 x 200.
The boys’ relay team of Brandon Beauprey, Rene Miguel, Joshua Hosier & Craig Allen was 3rd in the 4 x 400 while the relay team of Ahron Stroud, Rene Miguel, Tommy Marsh & Joshua Hosier took 4th in the 4 x 100.
Next up for North Mason is the Class 2A West Central District III Meet in Sumner Friday and Saturday.
The Shelton track teams finished hosting the Narrows League Championships Saturday. The Highclimber boys were 5th while the girls placed 6th. Gig Harbor tied with Central Kitsap for the league title on the boys’ side while the Lady Tides won it outright. Top Shelton finishers were Bryton Rodgers who took the championship in the pole vault; Indi Endicott placed 2nd in the pole vault, 2nd in the 300 hurdles, 3rd in the 110 hurdles, and 5th in the high jump; Alaura Jones finished 2nd in the discus and 4th in the shot put; Courtney Hansen placed 2nd in the javelin; Elizabeth Brandenburg took 4th in the discus; Hannah Womer was 4th in the high jump; Nathan Morgan finished 5th in the 800; and Roman Hurst took 5th in the triple jump.
The Highclimber girls’ relay team of Madisen Striplin, Niko Zorn, Kandyce Bragg & Megan Elliott was 4th in the 4 x 200.
Shelton heads to the Class 4A West Central District Meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium Friday and Saturday.
The Shelton rugby teams are heading to the State Championship semi finals next weekend in Ferndale. The girls play Budd Bay at 3:30 PM Saturday and the boys’ opponent has yet to be determined. Both teams lost their regular season finales. The girls fell to Budd Bay on Friday and the boys lost to Rainier Saturday.
