Filing for this fall’s election begins next week and Mason County Election officials will be mailing out redistricting cards beginning Wednesday, May 9th. Mason County Auditor Karen Herr explained Tuesday morning that candidate filing is two weeks earlier than in the past due to a new federal law that caused the State to move up the Primary Election which resulted in changing filing week.
Candidate filing begins at 8:30 AM Monday, May 14th and closes at 4:30 PM Friday, May 18th. Declarations of candidacy can be filled out in person during business hours or 24-hours a day on the auditor’s website: https://wei.sos.wa.gov/county/mason/en/Elections/Pages/default.aspx. Offices open for election this fall include all three Mason County Commissioner positions, both Mason County Superior Court Judges’ seats, both 35th District State Representative positions, a seat in both Mason County PUD No. 1 and No. 3, and several statewide seats such as Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General. More information on open seats is also available on the Election’s Department website.
Auditor Herr also talked about mailing redistricting cards which tell registered voters how Census 2010 data resulted in changes in the voting precincts, Congressional Districts, and County Commissioner Districts.
