A Belfair man died Saturday after falling from a tree. The Mason County Coroner identified the man as 52-year-old Anthony K. Woods. Woods was at his brother’s home in the 200 block of E. Cedarbrook Lane in Belfair helping cut down trees. About 5 PM, he was 50 to 60 feet up a tree and attached to a belt that was secured around the tree. A cable had been attached to the tree and tension was being applied from a backhoe on the ground. As Woods cut through the tree, it splintered and snapped unexpectedly causing him to fall. As he fell, his head struck a railroad tie that was used as a fence post which caused major trauma to his skull. He died at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. The death is being investigated by Coroner Wes Stockwell and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
