The Mary M. Knight football team’s season came to an end Saturday night at Tumwater Stadium as the Owls lost to Neah Bay 40 to 0 in the Class 1B State Playoffs.
The boys from Matlock were unable to generate much offense against a Red Devils team that scored three of their touchdowns on runs of more than 45 yards. Mary M. Knight’s best scoring opportunity came after Nick Deirkop intercepted a Neah Bay pass but the Red Devils’ defense stepped up and again shut down the Owls on a wet cold night during which the rain didn’t stop.NeahBayracked up 212 yards of offense all on the ground while holding MMK to 76 yards. The Owls were led by Kyle Willy’s 28 yards rushing. Juan Jimenez added 19 on the ground. And Dierkop ended up with 13. The game was called at the half due to the mercy rule. Mary M. Knight finishes the season with a 7-and-2 record. Coach Mike Evans called the season “fantastic” as the Owls went from 1-and-8 last year to 7-and-2 with the “almost the same roster.” Evans also said he is “very proud of the boys.”
