The Shelton track and field teams held their first meet on the new track at Highclimber Stadium Saturday against Centralia and Rochester. The Highclimbers’ Jaron Sartori topped three events on the boys’ side, setting personal records in the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump.
Kyle McGregor won the boys’ shot put and the boys’ discus.
Kennadi Ward took the girls’ long jump and the girls’ 200 meters.
Freshman Maddie Allred won the girls’ high jump.
Jazlind Warren topped the girls’ shot put.
Freshman Mary Jane Hageman took the girls’ 100-meter hurdles.
Jaydon Blackburn won the boys’ 800 meters.
Landon Bursch topped the boys’ 400 meters.
Ali Clifton won the girls’ 800 meters.
Alauna Carstens took the girls’ 1600 meters.
Shelton’s next meet is Thursday at home against Tumwater.
The North Mason fastpitch softball team suffered their first loss Friday as Port Angeles came from behind to win 6 to 5. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Audrey Johnson and a two-run double by Sahara Pruitt. NM’s Rosemary Hughes hit a solo home run to open the second inning and the girls from Belfair had a 4-0 lead until the fourth when the Roughriders started their comeback, scoring two runs in each of the next three innings to lead 6 to 4 heading into the seventh. North Mason got one run back in the bottom of the frame, on a Mandy Cole RBI single, and had the tying run in scoring position but weren’t able to advance the runner.
The Bulldogs had 12 hits led by Sarah Pruitt who was 4 for 4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. Audrey Johnson was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and scored two runs. Amber Johnson went 3 for 4, with a double and scored a run. And Rosemary Hughes was 1 for 4 with a solo homer.
Tuesday Palmer suffered the loss in the pitching circle, allowing six runs on 13 hits, striking out nine with no walks.
North Mason is now 2-and-1 on the season. They travel to Bremerton Thursday.
A bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning did in the North Mason baseball team Saturday as the Bulldogs lost at Port Angeles 7 to 6.
The boys from Belfair rallied from a 3-0 deficit, scoring four runs in the fifth inning that started with a sacrifice fly by Caden North. Two more runs scored on errors in the next two NM at-bats tying the score. And Cole McCormick’s RBI single gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.
North Mason added insurance runs on an RBI single by Mason Shumaker in the sixth and a two-out RBI single by North in the top of the seventh.
However, walks and errors in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Roughriders to score four runs, the last two with two outs.
North Mason drops to 0-and-3 on the season. They host Bremerton Friday.
