The Shelton football team couldn’t stop Bremerton Saturday as the Knights used big plays to crush the Highclimbers 63 to 16.
Bremerton scored eight touchdowns and racked up over 500 yards of offense. Some of those big plays included runs of 52 yards, 53 yards, 60 yards and 62 yards. The Knight’s leading ball carrier was Ahmir Paden who had 234 yards in the first half.
Shelton was without a key player and several ‘Climbers left the game with injuries. Gavin Gould was noteably absent from the lineup reportedly suffering an injury during practive the previous day. During the game, Bradley Eleton, Donavan Wood-Ricker, Danny Mendiola-Lopez and Josiah Olels left with injuries.
Highclimbers’ highlights: Hunter Borgault kicked a 33-yard field goal; Olels scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter; Conner Gilman scored from two yards out in the third; and three turnovers (two on kickoffs).
With the win, Bremerton improved to 2-and-0 on the season. Shelton drops to 1-and-2.
Next up for the Knights, they host Port Angeles Friday night. The Highclimbers stay on the road and travel to Klahowya next Saturday. Kick off in Silverdale is 1 PM.
Meanwhile, the Shelton junior varsity football team improved to 3-and-0 Saturday, shutting out Bremerton’s JV 40 to 0.
