Mason County’s unemployment rate increased in December. According to Washington State Employment Security, the County’s unemployment rate last month was 8.6 percent. That’s is up eight-tenths of a percentage point from November’s revised rate of 7.8 percent and more than three percent higher than December 2019’s rate of 5.5 percent.
Adjacent counties saw similar increases in unemployment in December 2020. Grays Harbor County’s unemployment rate last month increased 1.2 percent to 10.1 percent. Jefferson County had an increase of 1.1 percent to 8.2 percent. There was a nine-tenths of a percent increase in unemployment in Lewis County to 7.5 percent. And there was a seven-tenth of a percent increase in Kitsap (6.3%), Pierce (7.6%) and Thurston (6.5%) counties’ unemployment rates in December.
