Legislative Leaders: Hope Is on the Horizon

The first day of the 2021 legislative session in Olympia began Monday with a message of hope and recovery from the worst pandemic in 100 years. Washington House Republicans’ John Sattgast reports.

SATTGAST: In the State House of Representatives, lawmakers wearing masks and distancing themselves six feet apart, began the 105-day session rallying around this message: “Hope is on the horizon.”

House Republican Leader Representative J.T. Wilcox said the impact of COVID has divided both our state and the nation. But he noted it’s time for both Republicans and Democrats to come together to help our state heal and begin the process of recovery.

WILCOX: “It’s not about us, Madam Speaker. It’s not about egos. It’s not about our individual agendas or even our party agendas. It’s about every single person in the state of Washington that’s bearing a burden that is much harder than it used to be.”

Wilcox said it’s time to get to work.

WILCOX: “We hope that we can see immediate action to help even out the burdens and to relieve the burdens that people clear across Washington are bearing.”
