Travelers using U.S. Highway 101 north of Eldon in Mason County will see one-way alternating traffic until further notice. The around-the-clock traffic control is required after heavy rainfall triggered roadway settlement.
A roughly 300-foot section of the northbound lane has settled several inches. The settlement also damaged about 75 feet of the northbound US 101 shoulder.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is in the process of identifying what work is needed to fully reopen the highway.
What travelers can expect:
- Reduced speed limit approaching the damaged roadway
- A traffic signal that directs an alternating lane of traffic
