Threat of Flooding Thursday – Flood Watch Issued

UPDATED 3:50 PM: The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Mason County. The Flood Watch is effective through Thursday morning.

A series of weather systems will cause the Skokomish River to rise throughout the week. The next system moving through the region Wednesday into Thursday is expected to bring an additional 2 inches of rain to portions of the Olympics and the Skokomish Basin, potentially pushing the river close to minor flood stage by Thursday morning.

Forecasters predict the Skokomish will rise to the 16.5-foot minor flood stage late Saturday afternoon and exceed the 17.5-foot moderate flood stage about 10 PM Saturday. At this time, the river is expected to crest around 4 AM Sunday.
