A two-vehicle head-on collision south of Hoodsport blocked U.S. Highway 101 for two hours Sunday and sent four to the hospital.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a southbound 1997 Honda Accord drifted into the northbound lane of 101 at milepost 332.2 about 11:30 AM. The driver, a 45-year-old Brinnon man, swerved to the northbound shoulder to miss an oncoming vehicle, then swerved back toward the southbound lane and struck a northbound 2019 Mazda CX-9 SUV head-on, blocking both lanes of travel.
The Brinnon man was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia.
As a precaution, the three in the Mazda – a 33-year-old Olympia woman, a 36-year-old Lakeside, CA, woman, and a 7-year-old Olympia girl – were also transported to St. Pete’s.
A press memo indicates that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash and the Brinnon man faces DUI charges.
