Mason County’s unemployment rate dropped slightly in September. Preliminary numbers from the Washington State Employment Security Department say the County’s unemployment rate last month dropped six-tenths of a percentage point to 9.2 percent, down from August’s revised rate of 9.8 percent. Last month’s unemployment rate was nearly four percent (3.8%) higher than September 2019’s rate of 5.4 percent.
Adjacent counties saw larger decreases in September, led by Pierce County’s 1.4 percent drop to 8.6 percent. Thurston (7.1%) and Grays Harbor (10%) counties saw drops of 1.1 percent. Lewis County’s unemployment rate last month was down one percent to 8.1 percent. Jefferson County saw a decrease of nine-tenths of a percent to 7.8 percent. And Kitsap County’s September unemployment rate was 6.8 percent, down eight-tenths of a percent.
