County Unemployment Drops in August

Mason County’s unemployment rate dropped in August, according to Washington State Employment Security. Preliminary numbers for last month show the County’s unemployment rate was 10 percent. That’s down two percentage points from July’s revised rate of 12 percent but over four percent (4.1%) higher than August 2019’s rate of 5.9 percent.

Adjacent county’s also saw reductions in unemployment around two percent with Grays Harbor County dropping 2.4 percent to 11.2 percent. Jefferson (8.8%) and Lewis (9.2%) counties dropped 2.1 percent last month. The August unemployment rates in Pierce (10.1%) and Thurston (8.3%) counties decreased two percent. And Kitsap County’s unemployment rate went down 1.7 percent last month to 7.7 percent.
