State Highway Construction 9/6 to 9/12

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from September 6, 2020 to September 12, 2020.

US 101 – Coffee Creek – Remove Fish Barrier
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 346.8
Description:  Crews are building a new alignment for Coffee Creek as part of a WSDOT fish barrier removal project. 
Work Schedule:  See below:

  • Both the Shelton-Matlock Road on-ramp to southbound US 101 and the southbound US 101 exit to Shelton-Matlock Road are open to travel.
  • On Monday, Aug. 31, construction crews had closed both ramps to finish paving and installing permanent lighting, pavement markings and guardrail.
  • While remaining work activities continue off the roadway, reopening the ramps mark the last major construction milestone for this project. 

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 31.1 – 31.7
Description:  Crews will build a two lane bypass road while crews build a roundabout at the intersection of SR 3 and Airport Road. Before travelers are moved into the bypass road, WSDOT will temporarily reduce the speed limit from 50 mph to 30 mph between milepost 31.16 and 31.77. The roundabout is expected to open to travelers by October. 
Work Schedule:  7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each Monday through Friday. 

SR 302 – E of Elgin Clifton Rd to SR 16 – Remove Fish Barriers, Paving and ADA Compliance
Highway: 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.8 to 16.9
Description: This project removes and replaces three outdated culverts under SR 302 with fish passable structures, repaves 6 miles of SR 302, and rebuilds sidewalks and ramps at the intersections of SR 302 and SR 302 (Spur) through SR 302 and 94th Avenue to comply with the Americans with Disability Act and improve access for all travelers. Additionally, drivers can expect three consecutive weekend closures of the SR 302 Purdy Spit for bridge deck repairs beginning Sept. 11. A signed detour will be available to travelers around Henderson Bay. This work is extremely weather sensitive and could be rescheduled. 
Work Schedule: Drivers will see weekday, daytime construction as crews build the concrete girder bridge at Minter Creek. Previously announced Purdy Bridge deck repairs have been canceled by the contractor due to historic forecasted rain in mid to late September. The work will now occur sometime during summer of 2021.

Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 8.3
Description: Drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes during overnight hours as utility crew for Grays Harbor PUD replace aerial power lines across the highway. 
Work Schedule: 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 through 5 a.m. Saturday.
