[VIDEO] The Washington State Department of Health is closely monitoring progress toward development of a vaccine for COVID-19. During a virtual news conference Wednesday, Washington State Secretary of Health, John Wiesman, told reporters the DOH is engaged in vaccine planning efforts and will be ready to distribute a safe and effective vaccine as soon as the time comes but only if clinical trials determine their safety and efficacy.
Wiesman also explained that when a vaccine becomes available, there will be a limited number doses.
DOH will continue working with federal and local partners to build the infrastructure needed for distribution when a vaccine is ready sometime later this year or early next year.
Also during the news conference, the Secretary of Health cautioned residents about large gatherings this Labor Day.
