State Highway Construction 7/19 to 7/25

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from July 19, 2020 to July 25, 2020.

US 101 – Coffee Creek – Remove Fish Barrier
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 346.8
Description:  Crews are building a new alignment for Coffee Creek as part of a WSDOT fish barrier removal project.

Shelton-Matlock Road 

  • On Monday, July 20, crews are scheduled to restore traffic to a rebuilt portion of the Shelton-Matlock Road adjacent to US 101. Travelers should expect up to 15 minute delays as crews make the change.
  • ??Travelers have used a temporary bypass road around the construction zone since April. The temporary bypass road has allowed crews to install a large concrete structure that will carry a realigned Coffee Creek under the Shelton-Matlock Road. The traffic shift could be rescheduled due to weather.  ?

Description: Westbound shoulder closures for utility work. 
Work Schedule:  8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 27

Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 11.5 to 19
Description: One-way alternating traffic for utility work. 
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each Monday through Thursday through Thursday, July 30.

Highway: SR 119 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 2.4 – 2.5
Description: One-way alternating traffic for utility work. 
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. each weekday through July 17. 

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) .01 to 3
Description:  One-way alternating traffic for roadway repair. 
Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 20.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 4.5 – 4.8
Description: One-way alternating traffic for roadway repair. 
Work Schedule:  8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 20-21.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 367 
Description: Southbound US 101 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close for guardrail repair. Travelers will detour via southbound US 101 and return via Trosper Road. 
Work Schedule: 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 to 4 a.m. the following day. 

SR 302 – E of Elgin Clifton Rd to SR 16 – Remove Fish Barriers, Paving and ADA Compliance
Highway: 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.8 to 16.9
Description: This project removes and replaces three outdated culverts under SR 302 with fish passable structures, repaves 8 miles of SR 302, and rebuilds sidewalks and ramps at the intersections of SR 302 and SR 302 (Spur) through SR 302 and 94th Avenue to comply with the Americans with Disability Act and improve access for all travelers. Additionally, drivers can expect up to three weekend closures of the SR 302 Purdy Spit for bridge deck repairs scheduled for summer 2020. The bridge deck work will take place day and night. A signed detour will be in place during construction. Paving and deck repairs will require warm, dry weather conditions. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. Speed limit through the work zone is 25 mph.
Work Schedule: Drivers will see weekday, daytime construction as crews build the concrete girder bridge at Minter Creek. Additional work is scheduled below:

Monday, July 6 and Tuesday, July 7 

  • Westbound SR 16 exit to SR 302 will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Drivers will detour using Burnham Drive.

Wednesday, July 9

  • Eastbound SR 302 exit to SR 16 will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Drivers will detour using Burnham Drive.
