Hit and Run Crash Injures Two on Motorcycle

Two Belfair residents were ejected from a motorcycle Wednesday while trying to avoid an oncoming truck on Highway 3 near Grapeview Loop Road South. The truck then fled the scene.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the 2005 Dodge truck was southbound on State Route 3 and the 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle was northbound. About 4:30 PM, the truck was approaching traffic stopped for a vehicle waiting to turn left onto Grapeview Loop Road. The driver swerved into the northbound lane to avoid stopped traffic. The motorcycle lost control as it tried to avoid colliding with the truck and the two occupants were thrown from the bike. The truck fled but was later located by a Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy who escorted the driver back to the scene of the crash at milepost 15.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 58-year-old Belfair man, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The passenger on the Harley, a 61-year-old Belfair woman, was transported by ambulance to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old Shelton man, was not injured but is being investigated for hit and run.

The investigation is ongoing.

  1. How many people need to be killed or injured before they put a turn lane from Hwy 3 onto Grapeview Loop South? This is an ongoing problem.
