Fatal Brockdale Crash Under Investigation

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a fatal crash on Brockdale Road Sunday. Initial information from the scene said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a utility pole between MacEwan Prairie Road and McReevy Road about 7 PM. The force of the collision reportedly split the car in half. Mason County Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling told MasonWebTV Powered by HCC, the driver, a man in his 30’s, was alone in the car and no other vehicles were involved. The name of the driver has not yet been released. Brockdale Road was closed for about seven hours. No other details are available.

A Lilliwaup man was taken to a Tacoma hospital after a two-vehicle wrong-way driver collision on State Route 509 early Tuesday.

The Washington State Patrol says a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta was northbound in lane two of southbound SR-509 about 2 AM when it struck a southbound Buick Le Sabre. The VW rolled and came to rest on its top in the center median. The Buick came to rest in lane two of the highway. The roadway was closed for nearly four and a half hours.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 24-year-old Federal Way man, was injured and transported to St. Joseph Medical Center. He faces charges of Vehicular Assault and DUI.

The driver of the Buick, a 51-year-old Lilliwaup man, was also transported to St. Joseph.
