Positive COVID-19 Case Re-Assigned to Mason County

A positive coronavirus (COVID-19) from April has been re-assigned to Mason County. This man in his 50’s increases the County’s total positive COVID-19 cases to 39 but he is NOT an active case. The number of active cases in Mason County remains at two with no hospitalizations and one death attributed to the virus.

According to a news release, Mason County Area Command and Public Health were aware of a discrepancy in the number of cases in the county. Mason County Public Health Nurses have been working with the Washington State Department of Health to determine why.

Their investigation brought to light a case from April that was hospitalized in another county and the patient’s current address was not in Mason County. However, it was discovered that the man had resided at a Mason County address for more than 50% of the time prior to his diagnosis deeming him a Mason County resident at the time of diagnosis. Case contact tracing was previously conducted and concluded. Again, this is not an active case.
