The Mason County Board of Health and the Mason County Commission are holding a special meeting Friday morning to consider approving the County’s second application to move from Phase 1 of the Governor’s COVID-19 reopening plan to Phase 2. The meeting will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, May 22, 2020.
On Tuesday, Governor Jay Inslee Tuesday announced new criteria for additional counties to apply for variances to move to Phase 2 of the state’s Safe Start recovery plan and Mason County is one of those counties. The Mason County Commission discussed this possibility Tuesday morning prior to the Governor’s announcement.
Under the plan, Mason County can apply for a variance from the order which would allow more businesses to reopen than allowed statewide. The new criteria says counties are now eligible to apply if they have less than 10 new cases per 100,000 residents over a 14-day span.
