After the first day of Mat Classic XXXII, Shelton has all four particpants still battling for trophies among Class 3A wrestlers (with one in the semi-finals) while North Mason’s two wrestlers were eliminated from the Class 2A competition.
The Highclimbers’ Cameron MacAlevy is in the semi-finals at 126 pounds after pinning Ben Boss from Eastside Catholic in the first round and taking a 11-3 major decision over Ousman Fatty from Edmonds-Woodway. MacAlevy takes on Yelm’s Gage Nelson in the semis.
At 145 pounds, Shelton’s Robert Allred knocked off Cheif Sealth’s Michal Laudemilk in the first round; lost to Denny Roa from Evergreen (Vancouver) by a 3-1 decision in the quarterfinals; then pinned Marysville Getchell’s Jesus Cabadas in the consolation round. Allred faces Lehman Tucker from Spanaway Lake.
At 138 pounds, the ‘Climbers’ Beau Ward lost in the first round to Jermaine Broussard from Spannaway Lake before taking out Edmonds-Woodway’s George Quintans following a bye in the consolation braket. Ward faces Riley Buth from MTSP.
On the girls’ side, Shelton’s Jazlind Warren fell to Kennewick’s Alexia Asselin in the first round but took care of Renaeh Urests from Chief Sealth and then Zahnika Olsen from R.A. Long in the consolation bracket. Warren is taking on Lourdes Torres from Sunnyside.
At 125 pounds, the Bulldog’s Domingo Pedro Gaspar lost his first round bout to Grandview’s Jesus Sanchez by a 2-0 decision. Gaspar then pinned Xander Nielson from Burlington-Edision in the consolation bracket before falling to Centralia’s Eduardo Matias.
At 113 pounds, North Mason’s Izaiah Smith suffered an injury in his first round bout and had to forfeit to Woodland’s Judeah Sanders and White River’s Brendan McBride.
