Naselle Too Much for MMK

The Mary M. Knight basketball teams lost to Naselle Saturday in the Class 1B District 4 Tournament. The shorthanded MMK boys fell 90 to 36 while the Lady Owls lost 60 to 18. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast both games.

The Mary M. Knight boys played without junior Isaiah Compton who was injured the day before in PE class. Compton scored 20 points in the Owls’ last two games which included a loss to the Comets on January 25th.

In Saturday’s game, Naselle built a 13-point first quarter lead that the boys from Matlock cut to 10 before the Comets go on a run and build a 15-point lead early in the second. MMK again closed to ten but another Naselle run increasing the deficit to 25 at the half.

In the second half, the Owls were held to 11 points while the Comets scored 40.

Naselle’s Kolby Glenn hit seven three-pointers and had a game-high 25 points playing only three-quarters. Ethan Lindstrom and Jimmy Strange each added 17 points – also in three quarters. As a team, the Comets hit 15 three’s. Naselle advances to the District Championship game Thursday against Taholah.

Leading scorers for Mary M. Knight were Quinnton Krippelcz with 12 and Dylan Ralph with 10. The Owls play Three Rivers Christian Thursday in a loser out/winner to play for second place game at Montesano High School. Tip off is 5 PM.

The Mary M. Knight girls’ only managed five points in the first quarter; four in the second; were scoreless in the third and finished the game with nine points in the fourth.

The Lady Comets cruised to the championship game behind Jackie Steenerson’s 15 points. Lauren Katyryniuk and Kaylin Shrives each added 10.

The Lady Owls’ leading scorers were Kelsey Skinner and Hailey Lohman with 4 points each. Tryssa Robertson and Kaylee Ruggles each added 3. And Jayden Davidson was held to one basket after a 20-point night on Thursday against Three Rivers Christian.

The Mary M. Knight girls play Columbia Adventist Academy next Saturday for third place and a chance at Regionals. That game is being played at Montesano High School. Tip off is 6:30 PM.
