The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team rallied from six points down in the fourth quarter and beat Three Rivers Christian 27 to 22 in the Class 1B District 4 Tournament Thursday.
The Lady Owls were held to two first quarter points while the Eagles build their first six-point lead.
MMK turned the tables on TRCHS in the second quarter, holding them scoreless for more than five minutes and closed to with in two at the half.
The the third quarter was similar to the second as Mary M. Knight held Three Rivers scoreless for over five minutes allowing the Owls to take a two-point lead, but the Eagles ended the quarter strong retaking the lead and going up 17 to 12 heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter saw TRCHS increase the lead to six. That is when MMK’s Jadyn Davidson went to work scoring 12 of her game-high 20 points in the quarter. The senior also hit all four of her free throws in the quarter (making 6 of 7 for the game) as the girls from Matlock pulled away late.
Kaylee Ruggles hit a three-pointer with about a minute remaining that pushed Mary M. Knight’s lead to six.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Owls forced 29 Eagle turnover and Davidson blocked nine shots.
High scorer for Three Rivers Christian was Kendal Newport with 9 points.
With the win, Mary M. Knight advances to the double elimination portion of the District Tourney taking on Naselle Saturday at Castle Rock High School. The girls are set to tip off at 3:30 PM.
