SHS Falls to Capital; NM beats PT
The Shelton boys’ basketball team came up short against Capital Tuesday 35 to 33. This low scoring game was broadcast live by MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Cougars led 4 to 2 after the first quarter and were up seven early in the second but the Highclimbers rallied and had a seven point lead late in the first half and led 17 to 12 at halftime.
In the second half, neither team led by more than three points and the game came down to the final possession. With 3.1 seconds remaining, Shelton’s Ty Thompson caught a pass from the baseline, drove to the top of the key and just missed on a three as time ran out.
Capital was led by Brandin Riedel’s 13 points and Jake Brandsma’s 11. The Cougars improved to 9-and-4 in the South Sound Conference, 13-and-6 on the season maintaining 3rd place in the standings with one game remaining.
The Highclimbers got 10 points each from Ty Thompson and Chase Burfiend. Shelton dropped to 5-and-8 in the conference, 7-and-12 overall. The ‘Climbers are now in a tie with Timberline for fifth place. Shelton wraps up with regular season at 2nd place Central Kitsap Thursday. The Blazers have an easier road playing North Thurston Thursday.
Prior to the game 14 seniors were recognized. Nine from the basketball team and five from the dance team.
The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost at Capital Thursday 70 to 39. The Lady Highclimbers drop to 3-and-10 in the SSC, 5-and-14 on the season. They host Central Kitsap Thursday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The North Mason girls’ basketball team knocked off Port Townsend Tuesday 64 to 33. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-and-9 on the season. The girls from Belfair travel to North Kitsap Thursday. The North Mason girls are currently fourth in the Olympic League standings with one game remaining in the regular season.
The North Mason boys’ basketball team ended a seven-game losing skid Tuesday, beating Port Townsend 63 to 45. The Bulldogs are now 4-and-15 on the season. They wrap up the season at home Thursday against Olympic League leading North Kitsap.
The Mary M. Knight basketball teams wrap up the regular season Wednesday at North River. The boys’ tip off at 5:45 PM. The girls at 7:15 PM. Both Owl teams are second in the 1B Coastal League Standings while both Mustang teams are third. The top four teams make the Southwest District 4 Tournament.
