The unemployment rate in Mason County dropped again in December. According to the Washington State Employment Department, the County’s unemployment rate last month was 5.8 percent. That’s down three-tenths of a percentage point from November’s revised rate of 6.1 percent and a percent lower than December 2018’s rate of 6.8 percent.
Adjacent counties also saw decreases in unemployment in December. Jefferson County had the largest drop of half a percent to 5.3 percent. Pierce (4.8%) and Thurston (4.4%) counties saw decreased of three-tenths of a percent. There was a two-tenths of a percent drop in Kitsap (4.1%) and Lewis (6%) counties. And Grays Harbor County’s unemployment rate in December went down one-tenth of a percent to 7 percent.
