Heavy rainfall today into Friday will lead to an increased threat of landslides. Lowland snowmelt last week and recent rainfall has increased soil moisture to high levels across western Washington. With the ground at threshold levels of saturation, the moderate to heavy rainfall of 1 to 5 inches inches that is expected through Friday will put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides.
At least one landslide has already been reported at the coast yesterday and two today including a slide on Highway 106 near Union. More landslides are possible.
Areas above 6000 feet in elevation will see mostly snow and not be affected.
