The Shelton basketball teams lost to Yelm Wednesday. The boys fell 74 to 67 while the girls lost 64 to 52. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC broadcast the girls’ game live.
The Lady Tornados had a nine-point lead in the first quarter that the Lady Highclimbers cut to one before Yelm pulled away and built an 11-point lead at the half.
The ‘Climbers held the Tornados to eight points in the third quarter while scoring 15 and were down four (48 to 44) heading into the fourth.
Shelton tied the game at 49 with six and a half minutes remaining in the game but Yelm would pull away by holding the Highclimbers to eight points while scoring 16 mostly off Shelton turnovers. The ‘Climbers finished with 24 miscues.
Madison Plevyak led the Tornados in scoring with 19 points followed by Bayleigh Harder’s 17.
Shelton got a game-high 23 from Taya Gouley who hit seven three-pointers.
The Lady Highclimbers drop to 4-and-9 on the season, 2-and-5 in the South Sound Conference.
The Shelton boys are now 6-and-7 overall, 4-and-3 in the SSC.
The ‘Climbers host Gig Harbor Friday in a girls’ and boys’ double header beginning with the ladies at 6:30 PM. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast both games live.
The North Mason basketball teams lost to Sequim Wednesday. The boys lost 51 to 46 while the girls from Belfair fell 46 to 42. The Bulldog boys dropped to 3-and-12 on the season, 1-and-7 in the Olympic League. The Lady Bulldogs’ record is now even at 7-and-7 overall, 4-and-4 in league play. North Mason takes on Kingston Friday. The boys at home. The girls on the road.
The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team lost its first 1B Coastal League game Wednesday at Taholah 62 to 52. The Chitwins pulled away from the Owls in the second quarter and had a 33 to 20 lead at the half. The boys from Matlock rallied in the third quarter holding Taholah to six points while scoring 12 ending the quarter down seven. The Chitwins kept MMK at-bay in the fourth to remain undefeated in four league games. Mary M. Knight dropped to 6-and-7 on the season, 4-and-1 in league. The Owls play at Lake Quinault Friday.
