The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Mason County effective from this afternoon through late Wednesday night. Forecasters say heavy rainfall of 2 to 5 inches with snow levels around 3000 feet possible over Mason County through Wednesday night. This will lead to rapid rises on the Skokomish River which could reach minor flood stage as early as this evening. Addtional heavy rainfall with rising snow levels likely into the weekend.
The River is expected to crest around 17 feet about 4 AM Wednesday. Drop just below the 16.5-foot flood stage about 10 AM and rise above flood stage six hours later. The Skokomish is forecast to reach “Moderate” flood stage early Thursday morning.
